When you lie down, you will be able to see the imprint of a tiny foot moving across your belly and you will actually feel the baby turning over. This is an exciting time in your pregnancy because the baby starts to become a real person. When you are asleep, you may be awakened suddenly by a sharp kick or movements ?quite often just under your ribs. The baby will start to have hiccups in the 32nd week, which you will feel as short jerky movements inside you. You can alleviate the discomfort that this causes by moving around or drinking a glass of water.

 

The baby will start to turn in the uterus so that its head is down towards the birth canal. It won start moving downwards just yet, but it will start getting in the right position for delivery. Since the baby is starting to put on a lot of weight, you will notice weight gain as well ?often as much as a pound or two per week. Within the next two months, the baby will double its current weight.

 

In the 32nd week, the baby is able to blink its eyes, look around, pee and use its hands to making grabbing motions. There may or may not be hair. According to old wives?tales, if you have experienced a lot of heartburn during your pregnancy, the baby will have lots of hair when it is born. The baby usually weighs about four pounds by this week and measures about 17 or 18 inches in length.

 

As the baby grows, you will have increased aches and pains in your stomach and lower back. This is due to the pressure the baby places on your kidneys and your muscles. The ligaments in your stomach, hips and buttocks are still stretching, which accounts for the pulling and stretching pains you feel in these areas. You may also experience slight contractions as the baby starts to move downward, but they are mild and do not last very long.

 

This is the time when you should start finalizing your plans for the baby arrival ?completing the nursery and starting to stock up on diapers, blankets, undershirts and sleepers.

At 22 weeks pregnant, you are just about at the end of the second stage or trimester of your pregnancy. You will likely have a greater appetite for food that you were unable to eat during the morning sickness period and you may start having cravings for foods that you previously wouldn eat. These cravings often occur at odd times, such as in the wee hours of the morning. Once you realize the type of food that you do crave, it is a good idea to have some extra on hand so that your partner does not have to try to find a supermarket that is still open at this time. If you consistently crave junk food, you should try to find a healthier food that you enjoy and can substitute for it.

 

One of the things most expectant mothers notice at the 22nd week is that they have vaginal discharge. If this is your first pregnancy, you may become alarmed and schedule an appointment with your doctor, but this is a normal part of being pregnant. You may become more susceptible to urinary tract infections because you are not going to the bathroom as often and you may start having haemorrhoids. You should make sure you drink plenty of water and avoid foods that may cause you to become constipated.

 

During this time, your ligaments and muscles are starting to expand to make room for the growing uterus. This means you may have pains in your belly area and may become alarmed that there is something wrong. These aches and pains are also normal and will eventually subside. You should use creams and lotions to soothe your skin so that you won have too many stretch marks after the baby is born.

Consuming a lot of hot or spicy food items, tea, caffeine, and vitamin a supplements, effect the proper development of the foetus.

Women who are pregnant tend to feel over heated because of hormonal changes and thus must avoid any additional heating from outside. By this we mean Jacuzzi’s, Sauna or sun bathing must be avoided, as it has been found that women with over heated bodes tend to deliver baby’s with neural defects.

Thus all the above points must be kept in mind by a pregnant woman. Things that need to be avoided must be taken seriously as they have a direct or indirect effect at the normal growth and development of the baby in the womb.
